Quest performed a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) and subsequent Phase II Subsurface Investigation of the Stone Boatyard site, located adjacent to the tidal Alameda Canal, in Alameda, California. Results of the soil and groundwater investigation indicated that contaminated soils were present in two primary areas of the site: (1) a former Boat Keel construction area and (2) adjacent to the Ways along the property boundary. Contamination consisted of hazardous waste concentrations of lead and copper as well as contamination by TPH as diesel and motor oil.
A Removal Action Workplan was developed for the site that included the identification of cleanup goals protective of human health and the environment. Excavation included work in the tidal zone and measures were implemented to protect the canal from potential site contamination. Historic structures of the Boatyard were also impacted by the cleanup, with portions of the excavations extending under site improvements. |
