For the City of San Luis Obispo and
San Luis Obispo County Flood Control District Zone 9

Questa completed a comprehensive water resources management plan for the San Luis Obispo Creek Watershed. Termed the SLO Waterway Management Plan, this document addresses and integrates environmentally responsible flood protection, channel maintenance, biotechnical bank stabilization, Phase II storm water quality management, stream restoration and habitat enhancement, and endangered species protection for the entire SLO Creek watershed. The Plan represents a cooperative effort in problem solving and stream corridor management involving the City, County, and regulatory agencies. The Plan is the result of over four years of intensive work, and included coordination with multiple agencies, public meetings, and presentations before a combined City/County Advisory Committee to the Flood Control District.

The project included an inventory of watershed conditions, detailed studies of stream biology and geomorphology, and new hydrologic and hydraulic models using Corps of Engineers procedures. All of the inventory information, which was obtained using GPS technology, is also housed within the project GIS.
