For the City of Malibu, California

Questa conducted this wastewater and storm water feasibility study to develop management solutions for nutrient and bacteria total maximum daily loads (TMDLs) in the 258-acre, lower Malibu Creek watershed.

To manage groundwater contributions to Malibu Creek and Lagoon, the wastewater alternatives evaluation included computer groundwater flow models (120,000 - 350,000 gallons per day), individual onsite systems for nutrient removal, analysis of reclaimed water distribution/dispersal, and development of a phased reclamation strategy.

The storm water component focused on possible development of wetlands, storm water retention and other water features, as well as increasing riparian habitat. The evaluation included development of two alternatives to use portions of dispersal sites for a wetland-flood detention-storage basin facility, based on storm water hydrology and ecological benefits.
