Questa completed the final engineering design for this project as part of the federally funded Marin Non-motorized Transportation Pilot Program. There were no safe pedestrian and bicycle facilities along Los Ranchitos Drive, an important bicycle and pedestrian connector between the Transit Hub in San Rafael, the Marin County Civic Center, Northgate Mall, and the surrounding Terra Linda residential community area.

The project included the development of a new separated sidewalk for pedestrian use, as well as new bike lanes along the roadway shoulder. Since Los Ranchitos Drive runs through the San Rafael foothills, the improvement work included the design of retaining walls along the roadway to permit roadway shoulder and bike lane widening, as well as utility relocation, signage, striping, and landscape improvements. Questa served as the Resident Engineer for construction management and completed the work using Caltrans design and construction management standards. This project was constructed in August 2009.
