 Questa conducted a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment for a furniture production facility site in Oakland, California. Previous uses of the property included tire and rubber companies, a shipping terminal, a marketing warehouse, foam and plastic manufacturing, chemical storage and distribution, manufacturing, cold storage, and automotive services.

Questa’s Scope of Work for the Project was designed to meet the guidelines outlined in the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), Standard Practice for Environmental Site Assessments: Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Process (ASTM Standard E- 1527-05). Work included review the history of land use, including review of environmental database records search aerial photographs of the area, and review of historic topographic maps of the area; 2) site reconnaissance and evaluation of the subject property and adjacent properties; 3) environmental database records review for any potential on-site or off-site hazardous materials liabilities to the subject project; 4) review of local ordinances regarding hazardous materials storage and use; 5) interviews with knowledgeable parties; and preparation of an updated Phase I report.

The investigation showed no environmental impacts from the current operation, but found groundwater contamination from leaking underground fuel tanks and solvent spills due to historical industrial use in the general area.
