Questa
directed the four-phase restoration of a 12-acre riverfront park and natural
area along the upper Petaluma River, at the north end of the City of Petaluma.
The project created a new restored floodplain terrace along the river to reduce
local flooding and provide riparian restoration. Other elements of the plan
included construction of a trailhead parking lot, visitor orientation and
natural interpretive panels, and paths and trails. Two underground storm drains
were daylighted to create bioswales and a restored creek tributary for water
quality improvement. The trailhead parking lot uses permeable paving and directs
runoff to a bioswale planted with native riparian species.
Questa
assisted with project approvals, regulatory coordination, hydraulic modeling,
design, and implementation, including a component of creek management completed
by the California Conservation Corps. The ½-mile trail system is part of the
larger Petaluma River Trail, to be implemented in phases. Questa also
participated in the preparation of the Petaluma River Access and Enhancement
Plan, which guides all restoration and public access planning along the river. |
